On July 20th, 2022, the U.S. Department of Defence reported that they would be "renaming and expanding the scope of the Airborne Object Identification and Management Group (AOIMSG) to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) (DOD, 2022)" This change expands the office's mission to include synchronizing "efforts across the Department of Defense, and with other U.S. federal departments and agencies, to detect, identify and attribute objects of interest in, on or near military installations, operating areas, training areas, special use airspace and other areas of interest, and, as necessary, to mitigate any associated threats to safety of operations and national security. This includes anomalous, unidentified space, airborne, submerged, and transmedium objects (DOD, 2022)."
About one year later, on August 31st, 2023, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) debuted its website for reporting UAPs. In addition to reporting functions, this website provides users with information regarding declassified resolved and unresolved cases, frequently asked questions, press releases related to UAPs, and related resources (DOD, 2023). In November of 2023, a new section was added to the website that included information regarding UAP reporting trends. These trends tracked the altitude, shape, and location of UAP sightings. AARO and its website were developed to meet the needs of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2022 and 2023. Hopefully, the National Defense Authorization Act of 2024 will continue to strengthen the UAP reporting process and identification.
